BRIEF REPORT OF THE

5TH ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING TRUSTEES’ MEETING AND THE MEETINGS OF BOARD OF MANAGEMENT

 

In the meeting of the Board of Management of World Memon Organization held in Dubai in December, 2006, it was unanimously decided to hold the 5th Annual General Assembly Meeting, Trustees’ Meeting and the Meetings of the  Board of Management from 12th to 16th April, 2007 at Karachi , Pakistan .

The foreign delegates started arriving to Karachi from 7th  April, 2007. Since the venue of the meetings was Karachi Sheraton Hotel and Towers, most of the foreign delegates decided to stay at Sheraton.

 

The 3rd Meeting of the Board of Management of 2006/07  was held on 13th April, 2007 at Sheraton Hotel at 9:30 a.m.

 

After the confirmation of minutes, a brief welcome address was presented by Haji Abdul Razzak Yakoob (ARY), President of World Memon Organization, who thanked the World Memon Organization, Pakistan Chapter  for making elaborate arrangements for holding 5th Annual General Assembly Meeting, Meetings of the Trustees & Meetings of the Board of  Management in a befitting manner.

 

In his brief welcome address, he appealed to all the members of Memon Community to unite under the banner of WMO for the welfare & well-being of the Memon Community, its posterity and the entire mankind. He was happy to note that the WMO was gaining strength day by day.

 

The morning session was chaired by Sir Iqbal Sacranie, whereas the afternoon session was chaired by Mr. Pir Muhammad A. Kaliya. The different Chapters presented their reports highlighting the achievements and pinpointing the areas where lot more was to be achieved. The members of the Board of Management committed a donation of US$ 100,000 for WMO House, Karachi . Two far reaching decisions were made. New Trustees and Patrons were allowed to pay their subscription fees in 5 Annual equal installments instead of three annual installments. It was hoped that many new Trustees and Patrons would be enrolled.

 

On 14th April, 2007, Inaugural Session of the 5th Annual General Assembly Meeting was held in Hotel Sheraton. The Prime Minister of Pakistan was the Chief Guest and the Governor of Sindh was the Guest of Honour. The Prime Minister of Pakistan was the Chief Guest and the Governor of Sindh was the Guest of Honour. The inaugural session was attended by many Federal and Provincial Ministers, members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, elite of the Memon community, the members of World Memon Organization, All Pakistan Memon Federation and other distinguished guests.

 

Addressing the distinguished gathering the Prime Minister appreciated the positive role played by Memon Community in the creation of Pakistan and thereafter in the economic development of the Country. He also narrated the steps taken by the Government of Pakistan for encouraging the foreign investors in Pakistan . He appealed to the foreign delegates to invest  in the mega projects in Pakistan for strengthening the country. In the inaugural session, Mr. Pir Muhammad A. Kaliya, Vice President of Pakistan Chapter welcomed the honourable guests and the local and foreign delegates, highlighting the contribution of the Memon Community in the economic development and humanitarian services. Sir Iqbal Sacranie, Deputy President gave a brief introduction of World Memon Organization with particulars reference to the milestones achieved so far in the initial years of its formation. Mr. A.B. Muhammad was the Master of Ceremony.

 

At the end of Inaugural Session, shields were presented to the following members of the Memon Community who were recently conferred the title of Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Esaar by the Government of Pakistan.

 

In the afternoon, the 5th Annual General Assembly Meeting was held at Sheraton which was presided by Haji Abdul Razzak Yakoob Gandhi (ARY) and chaired by Sir Iqbal Sacranie.

 

Certain constitutional amendments were approved whereby the election for the Board of Management would now be held in person in the respective chapters. Only those members would be allowed to vote and contest who would have been members of WMO atleast 365 days prior the date of election. However for the sake of election in 2008 those persons would be allowed to contest and vote who would become members by 14th October, 2007. However, voting by proxies would not be allowed.
